History and Highlights of the Dolphin Hotel

The Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel opened in 1990 as part of a partnership between Disney and Tishman Realty & Construction. It was designed by postmodern architect Michael Graves, known for his bold, whimsical style.

The Dolphin is instantly recognizable with its playful geometric shapes and towering spires, adorned with two large dolphin statues. These aren’t your typical dolphins, though; they resemble stylized fish, reflecting Graves’ artistic approach to design.

Despite its location on Disney property, the Dolphin Hotel is owned by Marriott International and part of their Westin brand. This gives the Dolphin a unique identity—it offers many of the same perks as Disney resorts, such as proximity to the parks and Disney transportation, while also providing Marriott's signature services and accommodations.

The Swan's design features two massive swan statues on its roof, along with soft, pastel colors that give the hotel a serene, relaxed feel.

While Disney manages many of the guest services at the Swan, Marriott operates the hotel under its Sheraton brand.
